Lessons

Please post any lessons you have done or ideas you have come up with that are RAISSE-ish. There is no point in all of us inventing a wheel if some one else has already come up with something great. Please put great read-alouds, internet sites, or lessons that you think went really well.

Keep coming up with great ideas !

If you need something quick, simple and interesting. Try the Uncle John's Bathroom Readers. They always have random information and stats that the students love.

Also for great admit/ exit slips try Shel Silverstein. "Crazy Dream" is a great poem to use.

I enjoy reading short stories aloud from a collection titled Boys Write For Boys Read. They take approx. 5 min. and the students really enjoy. Contrary to the title of the collection, the stories are great for everyone. At the end of each short story there is a brief bio of the author which includes other titles and works. There have been multiple times when I have read a story and students ask about the author. Gotta love that! *smiles*

I have started using more of the "bellringer" type activities to begin class and get the students on task more efficiently. Using these the students have been more focused on the objectives we will be covering on that particular day. The "bellringers" have included quotes, open-ended questions, newspaper articles, political events etc.
