3- D Project: Math- Geometry

For my geometry class, I'd like students to build a structure of an "animal' or a "building" etc. and have them calculate Volume and Surface area of the entire structure. In addition I'd like the kids to write a short story or a poem concernig their animal or structure. I need help with a grading rubric. Any advice or ideas? Patty Spires with Gilbert High School

Patty - I teach Geometry at Pelion. Here is what I was thinking, I might divide the rubric into 60 points for the geometric portion of it and 40 points for the writing of the story...or whatever combination you wanted, but I think I would definitely make building the model worth a bit more. I am not sure why I think that, but I do. Anyway, on the geometric model, I would look for things like geometric correctness, precision, and creativity. In the story, I think I would look for basically the same things, and maybe add in grammar. I hope this helps you. It was just some things off the top of my head.
