Book Pass

I tried a book pass with my students to get them reading a novel this semester. This was a wonderful experience for my students. Many of them fell in love with some of the books, and they even fought over the books. If you have not tried the book pass, you should. It really worked well for my students!

I'm also going to do a book pass today. In Spanish IV we are beginning to review the past tenses, and in that unit we are going to write personal histories. So, I have found multiple autobiographies in English that the students will review and complete a book pass. The book pass will ask the students to interpret how the author approached writing their personal history, and then they will develop ideas on how to approach their own personal histories.

I,too, did a book pass with my Spanish classes. This was a great way for them to get familiar with the books I have in my room. They now have a list of books that they like and don't like and will help them to select books of interest for the independent reading time.

I tried the book pass the very first day of school with all of my classes - inorder to get them to be familiar with our classroom library and other materials available. A fellow Spanish teacher made a Book pass in Spanish - for them to say if they "loved it, liked it, or hated it" and they learned vocabulary. I think that everyone should try this in their classroom. The students really loved it!

Thank you for sharing this idea. I don't know why it had never crossed my mind.
